About Eva

My approach is to work in partnership with my clients  to address a person’s goals, while focussing on a person’s strengths to move forward.  When people seek counselling, they may be uncertain of where they want to land, or how to get there.  Together we will explore the importance of the change, one’s confidence/skills to move forward, and one’s readiness.  Together we will work on setting short term goals, exploring a person’s values, and hopes.  A question to consider is what do you hope will be better or different if this process is helpful.

I work primarily with individuals working on making lifestyle changes, and working on developing one’s self care, coping strategies.

I work with people dealing with addiction and mental health issues, as well as supporting family members, including parents and partners.

In addition, I facilitate a weekly women’s group for parents and partners with family members who are struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

Training and Experience:

I have a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto, and I am a Registered Social Worker. I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

I am a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), and provide two day workshops to health care professionals on Motivational Interviewing, a collaborative counselling approach.

I have been working in private practise for the past five years since leaving the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health as an Advanced Practise Clinician.

I worked for 20 years at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.  I have been trained using a cognitive-behavioural model, the recovery model, mindfulness, dialectical behaviour therapy, and motivational interviewing. I worked as a therapist and manager of a women’s addiction program, as an Advanced Practise Clinician providing training in Concurrent Disorders to staff in the Schizophrenia Program, as well as providing clinician supervision in the Addictions Program.

I believe in my own ongoing learning and training, as I believe I always have more to learn. I continue to learn from the people who come to see me and feel honoured to be working with people exploring their own process of change.

Consultation and Training: Available to therapists, health care professionals in the areas of Concurrent Disorders, Motivational Interviewing, women and substance use, relapse prevention and recovery.  I provide two day trainings on Motivational Interviewing to health care providers, most recently at the Good Sheppard in Hamilton, the Canadian Mental Health Association in Peel and Kawartha Lakes, and on a First Nations Reserve in Quebec.  I also provide coaching in Motivational Interviewing, and have been involved in a research study at Princess Margaret Hospital using this approach.
